Montessori Children’s House of North Barrington Develops its Outdoor Classroom Environment
On September 27th, 2013 Montessori Children’s House of North Barrington was recognized by the Barrington Area Conservation Trust as an “Environmentally Friendly Landscape” through the BACT’s Conservation@Home program during its annual Fall Family Garden Day. In order to achieve this recognition, the BACT Naturalist, Lisa Woolford, evaluated our grounds for features such as native flowers, shrubs and trees, our rain garden, wildlife habitat areas, and other features, and at the end of her visit presented our Head of School, Anna Perry, and the children and families of Montessori Children’s House, with a plaque recognizing this achievement.
Montessori Children’s House of North Barrington has a deep commitment to connecting children with nature and is in the process of pursuing the Nature Explore Classroom certification from the Arbor Day Foundation. The project is a “work in progress” and is continuously growing. The Fall Family Garden Day brought together the school community as families and staff worked together to develop the Nature Explore outdoor space, beautify the school grounds and enhance the experiential learning environment for the children who range from birth through age six.
Thanks to all who came to help at Fall Family Garden Day!
